Although better known as the best-selling author of over 50 vegetarian
cookery books, Rose Elliot is also a well-respected practising astrologer.
Daughter of astrologer and writer Joan Hodgson, and grand-daughter
of famous medium and seer, Grace Cooke, Rose started learning astrology
when she was in her teens and, aged 19, was one of the youngest astrologers
to gain the highest recognised qualification in the UK, the diploma
of the Faculty of Astrological Studies (D.F.Astrol.S).
Rose has a further degree in specialist predictive astrology (QHP)
and is a Fellow of the International Association of Professional
Astrologers.
Rose grew up in the spiritual retreat centre - the White Eagle Lodge
- run by her grandmother and for a number of years assisted in the
meditation classes, healing and spiritual unfoldment groups as well
as doing the cooking which led to the publication of her first book
and her subsequent career as a cookery writer. As Rose’s publishing
commitment grew, so did her waiting list for horoscopes. This led
her to use her skill and experience as an astrologer to design, with
her husband Robert, several original computer programs, and together
they launched Rose Elliot Horoscopes, producing
high quality computer horoscopes at reasonable prices.
Although she draws a clear distinction between newspaper astrology
and ‘the real thing’, in which charts are based on the
correct time, date and place of birth, Rose recognises the entertainment
and educational value of ‘star sign’ astrology. She was
the astrologer for Woman’s Realm for six years
and has also written star pages and astrological articles for other
national magazines including Here’s Health, Woman’s Weekly and
She. Rose has written several books on astrology including Life
Cycles, published by Pan and described by the Astrological Journal
as ‘…well informed, easy to read, and approachable
at any level’. She has taken part in phone-ins and studio
discussions on astrology on radio and television and lectures widely
as well as working privately for an international clientele. Rose
says:
‘Having studied hundreds of birth charts, I have
absolutely no doubt that astrology works. It enables us to make
informed choices by answering questions such as “Is this
the right job/house/partner for me?”. Knowledge of the birth
chart can help us understand and accept ourselves and our loved
ones better, to feel more at peace, more confident and aware of
our potential. It’s also very helpful to know the effect
and timing of the planetary cycles as they activate the birth chart
bringing different aspects of our life to the fore. These cycles
show where it’s best to put our energy; whether it’s
time to expand, to change or to wait and re-gather strength. Having
an idea of timing can be so reassuring and help us to make the
most of NOW.’
Her unconventional upbringing, psychic gifts and astrological knowledge
have given Rose an unusual perspective. She believes that the potential
in each one of us is far greater than the normal, self-critical mind
accepts and she wants to give people a glimpse of this vision so
that their lives can open out in a rich and rewarding way.
